Southwest Monsoon has been giving good rains over the state of Odisha during the season. So much so that the region has recorded heavy Monsoon rains on several occasions. While Monsoon had taken a backseat during the past few days, rains have once again revived over Odisha.

The last 24 hours have been good in terms of Monsoon rains. Good showers have not only been recorded in the interior parts, but over the coastal areas of the state as well. Isolated places have also witnessed a few spells of heavy rain.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Jharsuguda recorded a whopping 45 mm of rain followed by Sambalpur where 21 mm rainfall was received. Other areas to have received some rains include Bhubaneswar 17 mm, Bhabanipatna 3 mm, Keonjhargarh 2.2 mm, Paradip 1.4 mm, and Titlagarh 3.2 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area which had developed as a cyclonic circulation in the Northwest Bay. The system underwent some intensification and moved inland. At present, the system is lying over West Bihar and adjoining East Uttar Pradesh, Northeast Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh and Northwest Jhrakhand.

During the next 24 hours, the state of Odisha is expected to receive some more Monsoon rains as the weather system will remain in close proximity of the state.
