Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have been battling high rainfall deficiency for last many days. As on August 22, the rain deficiency in Uttar Pradesh stood at 13%, while situation is grimmer in Bihar with rain deficiency of 22%.
To be precise, both East and West Uttar Pradesh have reported deficient rains to the tune of 15% and 10%, respectively.

In the last many days, the axis of Monsoon trough was running via Central India. In addition, successive weather systems like the low-pressure area and depression were also developing over the cited region. Hence, active Monsoon conditions concentrated over parts of Madhya Pradesh. As a result, most parts of Indo-Gangetic Plains including Uttar Pradesh as well as Bihar were witnessing dry and sultry weather conditions.
At the moment, the low-pressure area over Madhya Pradesh has weakened. However, two circulations have formed, one over Central Uttar Pradesh and the other over South Bihar and adjoining Jharkhand. What’s more, the axis of Monsoon trough is also passing via Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
With all these weather features, we could now expect a substantial increase in rainfall over both the eastern states accompanying with moderate with isolated heavy falls for at least the next 48 hours, i.e. till August 25.

Spells of rain and thunder shower at many places with few heavy spells are likely over Agra, Aligarh, Allahabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Amethi, Auraiya, Azamgarh, Badaun, Baghpat, Bahraich, Ballia, Balrampur, Banda, Bara Banki, Bareilly, Basti, Bijnor, Bulandshahar, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Deoria, Etah, Etawah, Faizabad, Farrukhabad, Fatehpur, Firozabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Ghazipur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Hamirpur, Hapur, Hardoi, Jalaun, Jaunpur, Jhansi, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Kanshiram Nagar, Kaushambi, Kheri, Kushinagar, Lalitpur, Lucknow, Mahamaya Nagar, Mahoba, Mahrajganj, Mainpuri, Mathura, Mau, Meerut, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Pilibhit, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Rampur, Saharanpur, Sambhal, Sant Kabir Nagar, Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi), Shahjahanpur, Shamli, Shrawasti, Siddharthnagar, Sitapur, Sonbhadra, Sultanpur, Unnao and Varanasi during the next 24 hours.
In fact, some pockets of Uttar Pradesh have even started observing heavy rains, for instance, the city of Nawabs, Lucknow recorded rains to the tune of 40 mm in a span of six hours from 08:30 am to 02:30 pm on Thursday.
Foothills of Uttar Pradesh like Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Najijabad, Bareilly, and Rampur are likely to get heavy showers, leading to flood like condition during the next 2 to 3 days. So, the flood ferocity is now anticipated to shift north, after inflicting mayhem over pockets of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Thereafter, the rainfall intensity will reduce, but scattered rains will continue to pound these states. Most likely, rains may once again pick up pace around August 28 over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and on and off good rain and thundershower will persist till the end of the month.
So by end of the month, we could expect the rain deficiency of Uttar Pradesh together with Bihar will reduce.
