The month of August has been good for the Vidarbha region. In fact, this subdivision of Maharashtra has received several good spells of Monsoon rains on a few occasions. However, for the past few days, the region has received very little rain.
Many weather systems had formed in the Bay resulting in good Monsoon rains over almost entire Madhya Pradesh as well as Chhattisgarh. However, Vidarbha remained devoid of rains during this period.
Now, good news is in store for the residents of Vidarbha as good Monsoon rains are expected to pay the city a visit. During the next 24 to 48 hours, the subdivision may receive moderate rains. The possibility of isolated heavy rains cannot be ruled out.
These rains will be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently over west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Andhra Pradesh. This weather system is expected to move inland and increase the rainfall activity over Vidarbha along with many parts of Peninsular India.
These Monsoon showers are expected to continue for at least the next 48 hours. Rain intensity is expected to reduce around September 2. However, light rains will continue over isolated pockets of the region.
At present, Vidarbha is witnessing a rainfall surplus of 2 percent. On August 28, the deficiency stood at 5 percent. However, the upcoming rainy spell will only increase the already surplus rain figures.
