During the month of June, most parts of Rajasthan received good amounts of rain. Additionally, Punjab and Haryana also recorded normal rainfall for June. However, there has been a significant decrease in rain over the aforementioned pockets during the first few days of July. Due to reduced rainfall activity in July, both Punjab and Haryana became deficient in terms of rain. Also, the rainfall figures dropped in Rajasthan as well.
However, the last 2 days have been good for all the three states. Punjab, Haryana, and North Rajasthan have witnessed good rains. According to Skymet’s AWS data, Firozpur in Punjab received 100 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, Faridkot (45 mm), and Bathinda (18 mm).
Similarly, Karnal in Haryana recorded 38.6 mm of rain, and Uchani (18 mm). Also, Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh in North Rajasthan observed 31.7 mm and 21 mm of rain, respectively.
A cyclonic circulation is over Pakistan and adjoining North Rajasthan. Also, the western arm of the Monsoon trough has been running close to the foothills. A fresh Western Disturbance has been giving rain mainly over the hills, but have also affected this region. All these systems combined together have given good rain over Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan.
Due to this rainy spell in the region, both Haryana and Punjab will recover from the rainfall deficit to quite an extent. More rain is expected in the aforementioned region for the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the rainfall activity will reduce gradually.
