If we look at the rain figures for Maharashtra, it is apparent that the state has received good rainfall in the month of August as compared to September. Just a few pockets had witnessed some good rains, while the other observed light spells or remained mainly dry.

Nonetheless, the weather situation has taken a u-turn in the past 48 hours and most parts of the state have received light to moderate rains. In fact, few areas, particularly the coastal areas also recorded heavy spells.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Harnai recorded heavy rains of 80 mm, Mumbai 64 mm, Bhira 59 mm, Alibag 58 mm, Buldhana 53 mm, Sholapur 41 mm, Mahabaleshwar 38 mm, Akola 22 mm and Yeotmal 18 mm.
All thanks tothe two persistent cyclonic circulations, one over east-central Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast and the other over Southeast Rajasthan and neighboring Madhya Pradesh. In addition to this, a trough from this system is running up to Northeast Arabian Sea across Gujarat.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells are likely to continue over Maharashtra for another two days. To name a few places that will record good rains include Akola, Buldhana, Aurangabad, Jalna, Nashik, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar, Alibag, Ratnagiri, Mahabaleshwar, Harnai and Bhira. Duriong the same time frame, scattered rains may occur over Nagpur, Latur, Nanded, Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur.
Thus, the weather will continue to be pleasant, with comfortable mornings and nights but days will be humid.
As on September 14, the entire state of Maharashtra is rain deficient by 4 percent. Looking at the sub-divisions, Konkan and Goa and Marathwada have witnessed normal rains, while Vidarbha region is the most deficient with 27% and Madhya Maharashtra by 16%.
