In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Cannur recorded heavy rain to the tune of 103 mm, Mangaluru 80.7 mm, Kozhikode and Punalur 66 mm, Dahanu 56 mm, Alapuzha 44 mm, Honavar 41.4 mm, Kochi 39 mm and Karipur 37 mm of rains.

In the same span of time, Ratnagiri recorded 26 mm of rain, Goa 21 mm and Mumbai 19 mm of rains.

These rains can be attributed to the offshore trough which is persisting along the West Coast from Maharashtra Coast to Kerala coast. In fact, the Monsoon surge is also active over Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Therefore, the intensity of rains will continue to moderate to heavy over Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and South Konkan and Goa during the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, North Konkan and Goa will settle with light to moderate rains only.

It is anticipated that the rain intensity will further increase over South Konkan region, Coastal Karnataka due to the formation of a low-pressure area over Central Bay of Bengal. Moreover, the Monsoon surge and the westerly winds also strengthen. Thus, good rains will continue until July 24.

Thereafter, the Monsoon surge will once again weaken and the intensity will reduce significantly over parts of Kerala and adjoining Karnataka. Heavy rainfall will take a back seat and only light rains with few moderate spells will occur over the West Coast.
