Chennai rains remained far and few during the month of August. So much so that the city received very little rains throughout the month. There were a few good spells on rare occasions that kept Chennaites craving for heavy rains.

The month of September only brought good news for the residents of the capital city of Tamil Nadu. In fact, rain gods have decided to make a prolonged appearance over Chennai. The city has recorded a few heavy spells during this period.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Chennai did not receive any rains. However, heavy rain spells were also recorded during the last few days.

The next 24 to 48 hours may bring some more good spells of rain for the capital city of Chennai. These rains will be attributed to the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation in the west-central Bay of Bengal. Under its influence a low pressure area is expected to form anytime now. Also, a north-south trough is extending up to North Tamil Nadu. These features are likely to give good rains over the city.

So far, Chennai has recorded a good 119 mm of rain against its monthly mean of 137.3 mm. Thus, the capital city of Tamil Nadu will easily be able to surpass its monthly mean soon. During the next 24 to 48 hours, the city is expected to receive more rains which will only increase the figures and help the city in surpassing its monthly mean.
