Monsoon rain has been deficient this season in most parts of Karnataka, except for the month of June when South Interior Karnataka saw excess rainfall and North Interior Karnataka and Central Karnataka were normal.
In the months of July and August North Interior Karnataka and Central Karnataka were deficient. September has also panned out in a similar fashion for both the regions so far. However, South Interior Karnataka is currently within the normal limits with -13% of rain.
During last 24 hours good rains have occurred over most parts of the state. North Interior Karnataka, which at present is deficient by 40% has received some very good rain. For instance Raichur between 8:30 am on Sunday and 8:30 am on Monday has recorded 95 mm of rain. During the same period Chitradurga observed 66 mm of rain, Bijapur 42 mm and Gadag 10 mm of rainfall.
South Interior Karnataka also observed some good rain. Madikeri in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday received 61 mm of rain, while the state capital Bangalore witnessed 37 mm of rain.
A trough has formed from Marathwada to Lakshadweep across interior parts of Karnataka due to which good Monsoon rains are being observed in the state.
According to Skymet meteorology division in India, good rain is likely to continue over most parts of the state for another 2 to 3 days.
For agriculture purposes this spell of rain will be very beneficial as the reservoirs will get recharged and the ground water level will see some improvement.
