Good Monsoon rain in Vidarbha in next 2 days

July 21, 2015 1:51 PM |

dailymailAfter beginning on a dry note and remaining like that for almost 20 days, July in Vidarbha is expected to witness heavy Monsoon rain in coming few days, according to Skymet Meteorology Division in India. The spillover of this heavy Monsoon rain will also be witnessed in Marathwada region of Maharashtra as light rain is likely from 24th-26th July.

The situation was however not this dismal in June when Vidarbha witnessed moderate rainfall due to which the region scored a surplus rainfall of 52%. Cities such as Amravati, Akola, Nagpur and Chandrapur in Vidarbha region received light to moderate rain due to the dumbbell effect of Monsoon systems in Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.

Due to negligible rainfall in July, Vidarbha region has witnessed the rainfall which is below the normal by 16% for the Monsoon season so far. Though the deficiency is still better than other parts of Maharashtra that include Madhya Maharashtra with rainfall deficiency of 35% and Marathwada with rainfall deficiency of 48%.

Performance of Monsoon in July has also fallen short on a daily basis in Vidarbha where average rainfall for a day is also quite low. For instance, 12th July in Vidarbha ideally witnesses 12.5 mm of rain though it only received 1.6 mm in Monsoon 2015. Due to such instances, the rainfall surplus of 52% in June came down to zero and rainfall turned normal by mid-July.

See the table below that showcases daily performance of Monsoon in Vidarbha in first 20 days of July:

Though good news is likely to keep pouring in Vidarbha as the region has already witnessed a surplus of rain on 20th July. In last 24 hours, Vidarbha has received 9.9 mm of rain in comparison to the normal rainfall for 20th July i.e. 9.8 mm.

Moderate rain in next 24 hours is expected to enhance further after two days as a cyclonic circulation is likely to form in Bay of Bengal which will influence the weather in Central India and rain activity in that region. The Madden-Julian Oscillation is also likely to enter Indian Ocean in coming few days due to which rain over Vidarbha will increase, bringing cheers to farmers.
