Heavy Rain likely in Kerala in next few days

Southwest Monsoon that is presently active over Central India due to Monsoon systems in Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea will soon give Monsoon showers over Kerala. The subdued rainfall activity in July over Kerala which has resulted in rainfall which is less by 27% than the normal is likely to persist till the end of July, followed by moderate Monsoon rain in August.

The deep depression persisting over South Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat is expected to fizzle out within 48 hours after which Kerala will begin to receive light to moderate rain on August 1 and heavy rain on August 2 onwards.

Currently, that deep depression is taking away all the moisture away from Kerala coast and giving heavy rain over Rajasthan and Gujarat.

July has witnessed a very weak Southwest Monsoon over Peninsular India as most of the southern states have witnessed rainfall less than the normal. The weak western arm of the Southwest Monsoon due to a feeble Monsoon surge led to the dismally low Monsoon rain in Karnataka, Kerala, parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

However, from August 2 onwards, Southwest Monsoon is likely to revive over parts of Peninsular India as it regains moisture once the deep depression converts into a low pressure area and dissipates.
