Good showers have been lashing the Northwestern Plains. After observing high maximums and minimums, rains were welcomed with open arms.
While some areas saw light to moderate rain, other parts have received golf ball sized hail.
As reiterated by Skymet, some districts of North Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh received good rains.
Thundershowers were observed over areas including Etah, Agra, Etawah, Hamirpur, Ferozabad, Bhind, Gwalior and Morena.
Around 5:00 pm on March 7, convective clouds built up over the region resulting in rains. A few areas also observed hailstorms as big as golf balls. During this time of the year, the occurrence of hailstorm is a common phenomenon. The freezing level is at the height of 3.5-4 km.
Whenever the top of the convective clouds reach -8 km, which is quite common during this season, these clouds are capable of resulting in hailstorms. These conditions are damaging to the standing crops, mainly wheat.
These rains and hailstorms have resulted in a drop of both maximums and minimums. Now, the weather will clear up in the Indo-Gangetic Plains. However, another Western Disturbance is approaching the hills and plains of North India. Thus, similar weather conditions are quite likely.
