Godzilla rains in Dehradun, Uttarakhand kill 1; rivers breach banks

Dehradun rains have now begun to wreak havoc over the residents of the Uttarakhand. Heavy rains refuse to take a backseat leading to chaos in the daily lives of the residents. Inundation, landslides, flash floods and blocked roads were a common sight in the capital city of Uttarakhand.

Not only this, a man lost his life after being caught in fast current while trying to save his buffaloes from drowning in the swollen Asan River.  Not only this, at least seven more people also had a narrow drowning escape in Dehradun but were rescued by the Dehradun Police. Heavy rains have been lashing many parts of Uttarakhand during the past 48 hours.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Uttarakhand recorded a whopping 112 mm of rainfall followed by 35 mm of rain in Mussorie. Other areas to have received light to moderate showers include Almora 8.6 mm, Haridwar 15.4 mm, Pithoragrah 29.4 mm. Tehri 25.4 mm and Uttarkashi 24 mm.

Several landslides were triggered due to these torrential rains over the region due to which around 170 roads including both the national as well as state highways have been blocked. The Bardinath National highway has also been closed for traffic along with the Delhi and Dehradun highway. Not only this, the Kedarnath Yatra has also been suspended due to the ongoing weather conditions.

Also, water levels of Tehri Lake along with Kosi and Suyal rivers in Almora district have risen due to heavy rains while several areas of the state are also witnessing flood like conditions.

As per weathermen at Skymet, more showers are expected to occur over the state of Uttarakhand. However, the weather conditions may slightly improve after 24 hours.
