Goa receives heavy Monsoon rains after a long gap

Southwest Monsoon seems to be vigorous over Konkan & Goa at the moment.  The off shore trough along the West Coast seems to be active over Goa.

During last 24 hours, the beach city of Goa has received 96 mm of rainfall. This spell of good rainfall has been observed over here after a long time. The last spell of heavy rains occurred on July 2 and Goa recorded 71.2 mm of rainfall.

Heavy showers are nothing unusual for Goa as the West Coast is one of the rainiest places in the country during the Southwest Monsoon season. The monthly mean for Goa in July is 899.8 mm. So far, the city has received 352.8 mm of rainfall this month.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over east-central Arabian Sea. This weather system along with the trough across the West Coast will give good rains over South Coastal Gujarat, Konkan & Goa and Karnataka.

Along the West Coast, Coastal Karnataka has received normal rains. At present, Kerala is rain deficient by 15% while Konkan & Goa is rain surplus by 19%.
