The much awaited Ganesh Chaturthi festival is around the corner and seems like the 10-day long Ganeshotsav will begin on a rainy note in Maharashtra. All thanks to the well-marked low pressure area lying over Westcentral Bay of Bengal at present. Widespread rain is predicted across the State over the week.
Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra will receive fairly widespread rainfall from September 15 to 18. Few places could receive heavy to very heavy showers as well. As the weather system moves in a westerly direction, it will give good amounts of rainfall overOdisha, Telangana and SouthChhattisgarh.
Rainfall will decrease in the interiors of the state by September 19. On the other hand, intensity of rainfall will increase in Coastal Maharashtra. Heavy to very heavy showers are likely in North Coastal Maharashtra includingMumbai.
Most parts of Maharashtra witnessed good rains in the month of June. During the next two months, Maharashtra saw subdued Monsoon activity. However, Vidarbha continued to receive good spells of rainfall occasionally. Now, September is turning out to be slightly better than July and August. In Marathwada the rainfall deficiency has come down to 44%, from 50% by the end of last month. This spell of rainfall will bring down the rainfall deficiency in Maharashtra to some extent.
