The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi started on a rainy note for Mumbai and many other parts of Maharashtra. Due to rains, the weather in most parts of the state has become comfortable and pleasant and a similar condition is likely to continue throughout the day.
During the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities have occurred in Konkan and Goa, wherein Mumbai witnessed a few good spells of rain. Similarly, good rains were observed in Parbhani, Nanded, and Beed districts of Marathwada.
According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Harnai has recorded 91 mm of rainfall, followed by Dahanu 58 mm, Vengurla 48 mm, Bramhapuri 45 mm and Ratnagiri 43 mm in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday.
Meteorologists at Skymet have predicted moderate rains with one or two heavy spells in parts of Vidarbha and moderate showers in Marathwada for the next two days. Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains would continue lashing Konkan and Goa. During this span, Mumbai may receive one or two moderate spells of rain, however, heavy Mumbai rains are ruled out.
In the meteorological division of Madhya Maharashtra, places like Mahabaleshwar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Pune, and Nashik would observe light to moderate showers.
The weather would remain cloudy and comfortable for the next two to three days.
All these weather conditions can be attributed to the Cyclonic Circulation over the Gujarat region. Moreover, a feeble Trough intact over the Maharashtra Coast is keeping the Monsoon Surge active.
Except for Marathwada which is still deficient by 21%, as per Skymet’s data between June 1 and September 1, all the other three meteorological divisions of Maharashtra are rain surplus.
