The day May 19, 2016 has seen different shades of weather – severe heatwave in Rajasthan and Gujarat, flooding rains in Northeast India and last but not the least cyclone Roanu induced torrential rains in Andhra Pradesh.

Today morning Skymet Weather had said that the effect of Roanu will now be felt more over Andhra Pradesh than Tamil Nadu.

This is because the weather system after intensifying into a cyclonic storm kept moving in a northeast direction along the Andhra coast. At present, the system can be seen lying about 80 km southsoutheast of Machilipatnam, about 290 km southsouthwest of Visakhapatnam and 160 km southsouthwest of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.

It will continue to move in a north-northeastward direction along and off the coast of Andhra Pradesh during next 12 hours.

Here is a look at the rainfall figures in Andhra Pradesh from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm Thursday:

Roanu will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by tonight while moving in a northeastward direction, towards Bangladesh. The system is likely to cross south Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Cox's Bazar anytime between May 21 night and the next morning. Therefore, the intensity of rain will reduce in Andhra Pradesh after 24 hours.
