From Tamil Nadu to Texas, November brings extreme weather

November 19, 2015 2:50 PM |

Chennai Rains disrupt normal life

For the past one week, due to relentless rain, Chennai has seen it all. Water-logged roads, submerged trains, subways being converted into swimming pools and, of course, the much in the news, Ola boats. The rainfall surge killed more than 100 people and has put a big question mark on the preparedness of such a situation. Simply speaking, these violent, severe rains caused major disruptions over the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

Heavy rain was also recorded in many parts of Sri Lanka due to the weather system in the Bay of Bengal. Some areas recorded three digit rainfall as well.

However, it did not stop right there. It seemed that the weather Gods were a little too unforgiving on the entire world as a whole. It wasn't just a part of India that reeled under adverse weather conditions, but there were several other countries where mother nature wreaked havoc.

Severe snow in Colorado

The United States has also been experiencing severe weather conditions. A winter storm has been resulting in adverse weather in various parts of the country. While several tornadoes affected Texas, Arkansas was flooded due to incessant rainfall in the region.

West US, mainly Colorado was also not spared as heavy snowfall pounded the state. Nearly 400 mm of snowfall was reported in the area. Also, due to icy conditions several highways were closed as many accidents occurred in the area. California was also hit by a tornado, due to which many homes were damaged and several areas were without power.

Johannesburg in South Africa was struck by a hailstorm, which not only caused major flight disruptions due to aircraft wings damage, but it also led to a partial destruction of over 3,000 homes. The economy was also affected severely as the hail destroyed scores of fruit plantations across the region.

Storm Barney has caused immense damage in the United Kingdom

After Abigail, the second named storm, Barney has caused massive damage to the United Kingdom. Road, rail, and air traffic were affected across the region. Also, many homes were left without power. The rivers have crossed the danger level mark making it even more difficult for the residents. Not only this, the Met Department has forecast 12 days of snow for Britain. The region is likely to experience cold weather.

Bushfires in Australia due to severe weather

While most areas across the globe have been reeling under cold and rainy weather conditions, there is a different scenario in Australia altogether. The central and western parts of the country including Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney have been witnessing scorching weather conditions. In some areas, the temperatures did touch the 45-degree mark as well. Also, bushfires in the region have sparked up due to sweltering weather conditions.

All in all, November has been an extreme weather month for areas all around the world. While some parts continue to battle rain and snow, other areas have had enough of heat. As the days pass by, nature’s fury continues to put life on a standstill.
