Fresh Western Disturbance To Arrive On Weekend, Rain And Snow For Plains And Hills

February 23, 2023 5:40 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Fresh western disturbance is arriving on 25th Feb over Western Himalayas. A week long weather activity is likely for the mountains and plains of North India, albeit in a staggered manner.  Wet spell will commence lightly with Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh from 25th Feb, spread across the foothills and plains, to last till 02nd March. Peak intensity is expected on 28th Feb and 01st March, more over the hills than plains.

With the cross over of western disturbance towards Central Himalayas, mountains and plains of  North India have gone for a break in the weather activity. It is going to be short and sweet. In the wake of the system, both day and night temperatures have dropped by 2-3degree.  Any further sharp drop will be arrested now and only marginal changes are expected. Some places, including national capital may start witnessing gradual rise in the temperature. Overall, pleasantly warm days and mildly cold nights are likely for the next 2 days for the plains.

Weather activity will remain confined to the hills between 25th and 27th Feb. Formation of an induced cyclonic circulation over parts of Punjab and Rajasthan will reinforce the activity. Layer of   clouds will spread over the northern parts anytime from 24th Feb. Rain and snow over hills will start on 25th Feb on a lighter note and peak on 28th Feb and 01st March.

With the advance of western disturbance and later supplemented by induced circulation, temperatures are likely to rise across the region. Persistent clouding may suppress it over few parts temporarily. While the weather activity will remain mostly confined to the hills between 25th and 27th Feb, winter rains will extend and cover northern parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh between 28th Feb and 02nd March.

Hills and plains will have simultaneous activity during this period.  Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Manali and Kufri may have light snowfall on 01st March.  Northern parts of Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh are likely to have few spells of intermittent light rain, more so along the foothills. Capital city Delhi may have short and fleeting spell of light rain on 28th Feb and 01st March. General clearance is expected over the northern parts from 03rd March.
