There has been an inflow of frequent Western Disturbances for the past few days. However, these systems have only been affecting the mid and higher reaches, only about 12000 feet or so. These parts have seen decent rains while the higher reaches have also recorded snowfall.

A fresh system is all set to make an appearance on December 22 over the Western Himalayas and have an effect on the 23rd as well. We can expect a residual effect on the 24th but clearance is likely on the 25th.

This system may have induced circulation as well, which may give some rain over the plains. None of the previous systems otherwise have affected plains.

Snowfall is expected in mid and higher reaches only. Lower parts including Manali, Srinagar, Dalhousie, and Shimla may not see any snowfall. The effect of the system will be however be there and temperatures may rise. After the passage of the system, temperatures may drop and cold wave conditions may be seen over the region.
