North India has witnessed repeated ingress of wintry systems, both for the hills and plains, commencing new year eve. Most favorite locations in the mountains, including Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Manali and Kufri have been coated white, more than once. The left overs like Shimla, Dalhousie, Dharamsala, Mandi, Nainital and Mussorie have been lashed with torrent rain. State of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi have partially made up for the deficient rains in December 2021. Penultimate days are still ahead for treacherous weather activity, impacting simultaneously, on 07th, 08th and 09thJan. This unsparing spell will have peak intensity over the hills on 07th&08th Jan and punishing foothills and plains with hailstorm on 08th and 09thJan . National capital falls on its outer circumference but yet close enough to experience inclement weather activity from late hours of 07thJan till wee hours of 09th Jan.
Previous western disturbance has handed over the baton to a fresh and active weather system, currently positioned over North and central Pakistan. Western disturbance is marching fast heading for Jammu&Kashmir and Ladakh. The induced cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan is now making way for West Rajasthan and neighborhood. Under the combined influence of these two weather systems, bouts of heavy snow over the hills and risky hailstorm and thunderstorm for the plains, is quite likely. Overcast sky and reversing winds are the precursors and early signs of expected vicious activity on 2 fronts, plains and hills together, between 07th and 09thJan.
Northwest India is already hogging the 1st week rainfall by registering an excess of 400%. All sub-divisions, except East Uttar Pradesh bordering Bihar, are recipient of large excess led by Jammu&Kashmir in the hills and Punjab over the plains. Weekend woes are going to mount further, commencing today evening with fierce weather conditions, both over hills and plains. Situation may turn alarming in some parts on account of difficult and inaccessible terrain. Lightening and thunderstorm accompanied with squally winds carry the damaging potential of disrupting communication and connectivity in some parts. Substantial improvement in weather conditions can be expected w.e.f 10thJan, albeit amidst threat of foggy days and cold wave.
