The Western Disturbance lying over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir brought snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and rain in the entire state. The system is moving further eastwards, towards western Himalayas.
Srinagar, Katara and Jammu received traces of rain while the tourist spots of Gulmarg received 4 mm, Pahlgam 3 mm and Kupwara 9 mm of rain.
Parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand also received some precipitation on Thursday. Few pockets of Punjab and Haryana also received very light rain.
Clouding caused by the system led to drop in day temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir, while the minimums showed a rise. In fact, night temperatures have been below freezing point since last 11 days but on Friday morning Srinagar recorded 1.6 degrees as the minimum. Banihal recorded 2.6°C and Pahalgam 1.2°C and Kupwara 3.7°C.
In the plains, temperatures have been below 10°C since more than 10 days now. But the system led to marginal rise. Minimum temperatures are likely to drop once again in entire North India as the Western Disturbance moves away in another 24 to 48 hours.
