A fresh Western Disturbance is affecting North India and is presently moving across the extreme northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir region. The system, which is feeble in nature, has given snow in the higher reaches and has caused clouding over entire Jammu and Kashmir.
Lower areas of the region have been witnessing overcast sky but no rain has been reported in these parts. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the affect of the system is only confined to extreme northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the view of the system, minimum temperatures have risen by almost two degrees. On November 25, Srinagar recorded 1.4°C as the minimum temperature on Tuesday morning. Bhaderwah recorded 2.6°C, Kupwara 1.3°C, Gulmarg -0.2°C, Pahalgam -1.8°C and Qazigund -1.3°C.
Meanwhile, the system does not have any impact over northern plains, as night temperatures remain unaffected.
As per the latest forecast by Skymet, the state will continue to witness similar weather conditions for next 48 hours, post which the system will move away and the minimums will drop once again. Meanwhile, there is another Western Disturbance building and is expected to affect the region very shortly.
Western Disturbances become frequent during winters and are responsible for affecting the weather in the region to a large extent. These system after approaching the region usually stay for 1-2 days and give short spells of rain. These systems are called Western Disturbance due to their movement from west to east.
