Fresh weather systems to enhance Monsoon rains across country

July 23, 2016 9:05 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Monsoon had gone mild during the last few days, resulting in drop in countrywide rainfall. The countrywide cumulative surplus rains that stood at 3% on July 18, has now come down to normal as on July 22.

However, two new weather systems are now likely to bring the fresh Monsoon surge over several parts of the country. In turn, it will enhance the Monsoon rain activity across India once again.

Cyclonic circulation over West-Central Bay of Bengal

A weather system has developed over west-central Bay of Bengal off the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha.
According to Skymet Weather, the system is persisting in mid-levels and is tilting southwards. During the next 24 hours, the system will get more marked and is likely to move inland over South Chhattisgarh and adjoining Telangana and Vidarbha region of Maharashtra as a cyclonic circulation.

Thereafter, the system will move in northwest direction and cover more parts of Maharashtra and North Karnataka.

The circulation will initially give moderate to heavy showers over South Odisha, North Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Marathwada and North Interior Karnataka during the next 48 hours.

In addition to this, a trough is also extending from the system across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Accordingly, we can expect light to moderate rains across the trough line including Chennai.

Cyclonic circulation over Central India

This cyclonic circulation is marked over South Chhattisgarh and adjoining Vidarbha region. The system will continue moving in the northwest direction and by the next 24 hours, it will be seen over Central Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Southwest Utter Pradesh and East Rajasthan.

In wake of this, most of Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan will record moderate to heavy showers during the next 48 hours. Few places may also witness isolated very heavy Monsoon rains as well.

Monsoon trough and off-shore trough

Both the above mentioned systems will be prevailing in close proximity. Due to this, these systems will not only affect the respective regions but will also affect the other Monsoon systems prevailing across the country.

The fresh Monsoon surge will reactivate the off-shore trough along the West Coast, enhancing the rainfall over Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka.

Besides this, these systems will also pull down the western arm of the Monsoon trough during the next 24 hours. The trough will be now running across the northern plains, bringing light to moderate rain over Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, the eastern end of the Monsoon trough will continue to run through the foothills of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar up to Northeast India. As a result, heavy to very heavy rains will continue over the region.
