A fresh Western Disturbance has already started affecting Jammu and Kashmir and will gradually cover parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand by tonight. As have been reiterated by Skymet, thundershower activity will trickle down to the foothills and the plains of North India.
Rain in Jammu and Kashmir
In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Banihal received 8.5 mm of rain, Gulmarg 4.2 mm, Qazigund 7 mm and Kokernag 6 mm. Pahalgam and Srinagar received only traces of rain.
Isolated places could receive heavy thundershowers and witness a significant drop in temperatures. Maximums had reached 20°C in several places of Jammu and Kashmir but will come down by 6 to 7 degrees once again.
Rain in Northern Plains
Thick thunderclouds can be seen hovering over the northern parts of Punjab and Haryana. During the latter part of the day, we can expect some thundershowers in the plains including Delhi-NCR.
The two-day activity will keep temperatures under check in the plains as well. Minimums are also around or below normal at present. The Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi recorded 37.2°C as the maximum on Wednesday, while Chandigarh was cooler at 35.4°C. Most of the places in the plains will not see a significant change in temperatures during the next 2 days.
