Initially, it will affect the coastal areas of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, wherein we can expect moderate to heavy rains during the next 24 to 48 hours.
Thereafter, the weather system is expected to move in northwest direction and cross the coast. With this, rain belt will also extend and cover more parts of West Bengal, Odisha along with areas of Jharkhand and Bihar. Later on it will also give rain over East Uttar Pradesh.
Though intensity rains will vary from moderate to heavy but isolated spell of very heavy to extremely heavy rains also cannot be ruled out.
Kolkata is also likely to witness good rains and thundershowers after the next 24 hours, leading to pleasant weather conditions over the city. These rains are expected to continue for at least next couple of days.
With this fresh spell in offing, we expect that all the areas which have facing rainfall deficiency will improve up to some extent. As on September 2, the cumulative rainfall deficiency for Bihar stands at 20%, followed by Odisha 17%, East Uttar Pradesh 10% and Jharkhand 5%.
West Bengal is the only pocket of East India that is observing normal Monsoon rains.
