Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are the most rain deficient states as of now. East Uttar Pradesh is deficient by 45%, West Uttar Pradesh by 43% and Bihar is deficient by 42%.
Monsoon rains remained scanty over Indo Gangetic plains throughout the season. Weak monsoon conditions have had adverse impact over the crops of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Paddy crop over these states is on the verge of collapse.
However, rain has intensified over East Uttar Pradesh and parts of Bihar during the last 24 to 48 hours. The axis of monsoon trough is running close to the foothills of Himalayas. A Cyclonic Circulation is also persisting over eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar.
In the wake of these weather parameters, we expect rain activities to increase further over Bihar as well as over East and Central Uttar Pradesh during the next 4 to 5 days. Although these rains will not be enough to cover the rain deficiency but certainly, it will help the dying crops to some extent.
On and off light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells are possible to continue over eastern part of Uttar Pradesh and many parts of Bihar and until first week of September. This may be one of the longest rain spell over these states.
