A series of Western disturbances have given moderate to heavy snowfall over western Himalayas in the month of January. The ongoing Western disturbance is moving away eastwards. In the course of its journey, it has given moderate rain and snow with isolated heavy spells over many parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and scattered rain and snow over Uttarakhand.
Rain and thundershowers occurred over parts of Punjab, Haryana, many parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh during the last 24 to 48 hours. Hailstorm activities were witnessed over parts of Madhya Pradesh.
Another fresh Western disturbance may approach Western Himalayas on January 28. Rain and snowfall will commence over Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad parts of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir on January 28. Intensity of rain and snow will increase significantly and will cover Himachal and Uttarakhand on January 29 and 30.
Induced circulation will be over northern plains. This cyclonic circulation will pull moisture from Arabian Sea as well as from Bay of Bengal leading to rain activities over East Rajasthan, parts of Madhya Pradesh and Southwest Uttar Pradesh on January 29. Rain may spread over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, many parts of north Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on January 30. Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh may witness scattered rain on January 31. Light rain is possible over parts of Vidarbha, Telangana and Tamil Nadu on January 31.
