Fresh spell of rain expected in north India; pre-monsoon showers to continue in south

A fresh spell of rain is heading towards northern hills and plains of India. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, there are chances of rain over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the hills from 16th to 19th April. Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh in the plains are also expected to receive rain during the period. 

A Western Disturbance will arrive over Jammu & Kashmir in the next 24 hours, while another cyclonic circulation is likely to form over west Rajasthan. They will move east-northeastwards to bring cloud cover and rain.

The friction between the dry northerly winds and moist easterly winds in South India will continue to give rain over south India for the next two days. South and north interior Karnataka, Kerala, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will be the regions that wil receive rain during the period.

In the last 24 hours, South India witnessed pre-monsoon showers in south interior Karnataka and Kerala. The places that recorded rain are Bangalore, Madikeri, Raichur, Chitradurg and Mandya in Karnataka and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. Kurnool in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh also recorded a 40.9 mm of rain from Sunday 8:30 am till Monday 8:30 am.

Central and East India recording high maximums

South India may have got reprieve from the intense heat on Sunday but east Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Bihar in East India and Madhya Pradesh in central India continue to battle temperature in excess of forty degrees. Allahabad, Varanasi and Gaya recorded 40°C or above as the maximum temperature on Sunday. Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore and Jabalpur also recorded similar temperatures. The latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India indicates towards a drop in maximums on Monday as northwesterly winds coming from the Western Himalayan region will be less hot due to rain in last 24 hours.

Northeast region will also observe some rain in next 48 hours as a cyclonic circulation over Assam and Meghalaya will continue to persist, bringing in moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
