The performance of Central India was more or less satisfying throughout Monsoon this year. However, Marathwada was one region that remained rain deficient this season.
Initially, in June, excellent rainfall was observed over most parts of Central India. By June end, only Marathwada recorded a deficiency of 17%, while other Met divisions showed positive rainfall figures.
Good Monsoon rains were observed over Maharashtra region in the month of September, but Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and most parts of Madhya Pradesh remained almost dry. Despite recent good rains over Marathwada, rain deficiency currently settles at -46%.
However, now, Monsoon has revived over Central India and good rains are expected over Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, and East Madhya Pradesh. Southern and central parts of Gujarat will also receive scattered rainfall during next 48 hours. A cyclonic circulation over the northwest Arabian Sea will give rains over parts of Gujarat, Konkan, and parts of Madhya Maharashtra.
A low pressure area over west central Bay of Bengal will move in the westerly direction and increase rainfall activity over other parts of Central India. Thus, it is safe to say that Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Gujarat, which were dry since many days, will now receive a fresh spell of rain. These rains are expected to continue for at least 3 to 4 days and will be beneficial for Kharif crops in the region.
