A fresh Western Disturbance is now lying over Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir region.
This weather system will give scattered rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Few places over Uttarakhand could also receive some rainfall.
The intensity of precipitation will be light to moderate in the hills of North India.
This is the first Western Disturbance which will give some rain and snow after January 9, 2016.
By January 28, another Western Disturbance, more intense than the present one, will start affecting the northern hills. Fairly widespread moderate snowfall is likely, with heavy in pockets.
During this period, winds will change to southwesterly and then southeasterly over entire North India. This will lead to rise in minimum temperatures. So we can say that the hills will continue to receive rain and snow but the winter chill will reduce over plains during next 3 to 4 days.
After the passage of the Western Disturbance in the first week of February, we will again witness a drop in night temperatures in the plains. This could be the last spell of wintery conditions in the plains of North India.
