Fresh spell of rain and snow in Himachal Pradesh, day temperature plummets

Manali snowfall As reiterated by Skymet, fairly widespread precipitation has been observed in Himachal Pradesh, while Jammu and Kashmir has observed scattered weather activity. In last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Dharamsala has recorded 6 mm of snow. Chamba and Kullu have recorded 6 mm and 2.6 mm of snow respectively. Some other places in Himachal Pradesh to have observed precipitation are Manali 6 mm, Keylong 6 mm, Kalpa 1.2 mm and Solan 1 mm.

On the other hand, the weather activity in adjoining Jammu and Kashmir was confined to certain places like Batote, where 2.1 mm of precipitation was recorded. Pahalgam witnessed 2 mm of precipitation, while Qazigund and Kukernag recorded 1.8 mm and 1.3 mm of precipitation, respectively.

This spell of rain and snow has brought about a change in the temperature profile of the region. The day temperature in Himachal Pradesh has been recording 4-5 degrees below normal on an average. For instance Manali saw the maximum settle at 2.3°C on Tuesday, which is 7 degrees below the normal average. Similarly Nahan recorded the day temperature at 13.9°C, which is 5 degrees below the normal. While the state capital Shimla saw the maximum settle one degree below normal at 7.2°C.

According to weathermen at Skymet, the weather in the region is going to remain the same for at least a week as there are two feeble Western Disturbances expected on January 29 and February 2. These weather systems are expected to give more rain and snow in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Uttarakhand too could receive some snowfall during this period.
