The hills of North India have been witnessing scattered rain and snow for the past few days due to approach of a series of Western Disturbances. So much so that yesterday even Srinagar and its adjoining areas recorded some light snowfall.
Now, a fresh Western Disturbance has already approached the Western Himalayas, which is more intense in nature that its precursors. Due to this weather system, moderate to heavy rain and snow is expected over the entire hills of North India from January 21 to January 23, including the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand as well as Ladakh.
This weather activity will peak on January 22 over the hills with most activity likely over the Jammu and Kashmir region and Ladakh followed by Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The possibility of some rain and snow on January 24 cannot be ruled out as well.
Along with this, the fear of avalanches also looms large over these hilly regions. In fact, last week, two avalanches were seen last week in North Kashmir in the Kupwara district. This longer spell will also cause an alarm for upcoming avalanches.
