Fresh spell of rain and snow approaching Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh

After getting a short break, another spell of rain and snow is approaching hills of North India. However, intensity will not be as intense as last week.

Last week, all the three states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand recorded widespread heavy snowfall throwing life out of gear. This was on account of back to back active Western Disturbances.

Now, another active Western Disturbance is approaching Western Himalayas. At present, the system is seen over Afghanistan and adjoining areas and is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir by January 13.

We could witness clouding over the region by Friday itself, followed by rain and snow from January 15. Weathermen predict, good amount of rain and snow will be seen over the region and in fact, the spell is likely to be a prolonged one.

The system will be a slow moving system and will continue to affect the weather over the hilly region for 3-4 days.
As a result, people of the region will get some relief from the extreme cold wave conditions that have gripped the region.

Not only this, the system will also induce a cyclonic circulation over South Pakistan and adjoining areas of Rajasthan. This will then change the wind pattern to warm and humid easterlies and which in turn would increase the minimums. With this, plains will also witness the rise in temperatures and relief from ongoing chilly weather.

However, moderate to dense fog will make a comeback over the plains.
