Since the last four to five days, on and off rains have been recorded in Delhi and NCR. Now, as the axis of Monsoon Trough has shifted towards South Rajasthan and South Madhya Pradesh, rains are likely to take a break in Delhi and NCR for at least the next 48 hours.
Presently, humid easterlies are blowing over Delhi, and with the rise in temperatures, thundery build up during the afternoon hours might lead to one or two odd short spells of rain over isolated pockets.
However, we expect the Monsoon Trough to shift North once again and then the rains will re-appear over the national capital Delhi and its neighbouring areas by July 31. This fresh spell of rain is likely to continue till August 5. These rains will largely be patchy in nature, however, between July 31 and August 2, few moderate spells with one or two intense spells cannot be ruled out.
During this time, temperatures will subside, and the sky will be cloudy with comfortable weather conditions.
In the month of June, Delhi didn’t witness much rainfall and major rains were seen solely during the second half of July and that is why it is still deficient by 29%.
From June 1 to July 29, Delhi has recorded 145.8 mm of rains against the normal of 205.4 mm. Looks like the rains during the first week of August will help cover up this deficiency to some extent.
