Fresh spell of Monsoon rains approaching West Bengal

The low pressure area which was earlier seen over Myanmar and adjoining areas has moved in a westerly direction and is presently seen close to Bangladesh and adjoining North Bay of Bengal.

The weather system is likely to strengthen into a well-marked low pressure area shortly. It and may also become a depression during next 24 hours, while moving in a westerly direction.

In wake of the system, West Bengal will receive widespread moderate showers with few heavy spells of rainfall. Gusty strong winds could reach up to a speed of about 60 to 80 kmph.

Most affected areas will include Nadia, 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly district and gradually other parts of the state. The system will pour good rains during next 24 hours over the state.

Only few days back, West Bengal has witnessed a good spell of Monsoon showers. The present weather system will gradually affect Jharkhand and Bihar as well.

So far Gangetic West Bengal has received 3% excess rains than normal. On the other hand the subdivision of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim witnessed normal rains.
