Prolonged dry spell in the month of May had led to heat wave conditions in entire North and Northwest India. Though weather systems like the Western Disturbance were experienced, they were not strong enough to induce any significant cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and Haryana. This is why dry and hot westerly winds continued for a prolonged duration and increased the temperatures in the region.
But in the beginning of June a good Western Disturbance induced a strong cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and its adjoining areas. The circulation was fed by moisture from the Arabian Sea, which led to fairly widespread rain and thundershower activity over Rajasthan, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Delhi Haryana and Punjab.
Now this Western Disturbance is moving away in an eastward direction and the induced cyclonic circulation is becoming insignificant. The normal dry westerly/northwesterly winds are also expected to start blowing in the region. Therefore the temperatures are likely to rise tomorrow onwards.
However, the rise in temperatures will be gradual as the winds will be coming from south and central Pakistan and Rajasthan, where there has been rain and the temperatures are below normal. So these winds will not be as hot as they were in the month of May.
But in the next 3 to 4 days the temperatures in North and Northwest India may again cross the 40 degrees Celsius mark as the skies will clear up and bright sunshine will lead to hot conditions in Pakistan and Rajasthan, from where the winds are coming.
