The first strong spell of rains has been witnessed post the withdrawal of Monsoon over the northern plains including Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. This was courtesy the standalone Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayas, which resulted in heavy rain and snow over parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Delhi recorded 28 mm of rains, Karnal 32 mm, Manali 24 mm, Ambala 13 mm, Una 16 mm, Shimla 10 mm, Dharamsala 13 mm,
These rains were a two-day event, on October 23, rain and snow were seen over the hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir along with rainfall in parts of Punjab. On October 24, good rains were witnessed over Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi region as well. Hailstorm has also been reported in parts of Haryana namely Yamunanagar, Ambala including Delhi.
In view of this, chilly conditions have made an appearance over the plains. These showers have set in the pace for winter conditions to set in over the plains of North India. Usually also, in the wake of the Western Disturbance over Western Himalayas, temperatures witness a drop and wintry conditions are experienced in parts.
