Fresh snow, rain likely in J&K & HP; dry weather returns to Central India

March 14, 2014 2:32 PM |

The Western Himalayan region over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand would remain under the influence of two back to back Western Disturbances starting today. This period of precipitation will last till 18th March with variations in intensity on alternate days.

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, this time the affect of these weather systems will be limited to the foothills of the Himalayas. Snowfall will be more over the higher reaches while lower reaches including capital Srinagar will witness more rain with light snowfall.

These weather systems would not cause much rain in northwest plains other than some parts of Punjab and adjoining Haryana. Cloudy weather in these parts during the weekend will keep the day temperatures in check.

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, first Western Disturbance which lies over Afghanistan and adjoining north Pakistan is moving eastward and would reach the region during the next 24 hours

Affect of this incumbent weather system would last till 17th from where another system which lies 57 degrees East and 35 degrees North at present, will continue to give snow and rain in the above mention states till 18th March.

So the temperatures that are in the range of 5°C to 15°C in the hills and 20°C to 25°C in the plains would sustain and keep the weather pleasant.

Meanwhile, dry weather would be making a comeback in Central India as the wind discontinuity extending from a cyclonic circulation over east Madhya Pradesh to Maharashtra has become less marked, reducing the friction between southwesterly and southeasterly winds that brought record amounts of rain in Central India in the last couple of days.

Passing showers are expected over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and further east over Arunachal Pradesh due to remnants of Western Disturbance coming from the west direction.
