The hills of North India i.e. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been witnessing scattered light to moderate rain and snow since the last 24 hours.

According to the rainfall data available with Skymet,  Dehradun in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, recorded 14 mm of rain, followed by Shimla 12 mm, Manali 10 mm, Dharamshala and Mandi 4 mm, Banihal 3 mm, Gulmarg 2 mm.

In view of this weather, the day temperatures increased marginally, while night temperatures witnessed marginal fall of 1 to 2 degrees.

At present, there is no significant weather system over the region. Therefore, dry weather conditions will prevail at many places of the northern hills. But the higher reaches of all the three hilly states will observe rain and snow.

However, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to approach the region by tomorrow evening, which will give another round of wet spell in the Western Himalayas for the next two days. However, the Western Disturbance will not be very active this time due to which weather in terms of rain and snow will be light to moderate.

Currently the chances of Avalanches are also very high over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. During the next 24 hours, cold weather conditions will persist over Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Dalhousie, Shimla, Mussoorie and Nanital.
