During the last 24 hours, scattered places in Tamil Nadu saw moderate to heavy rains along with light rains along the coastal areas. Significant rains were recorded in places like Ooty which saw 63 mm rains, Kodaikanal received 18 mm, Tondi 10 mm, and Pamban received 9 mm rains.
These rains occurred under the influence of a lower level Trough which is extending along the East coast from Odisha to Tamil Nadu. Also, a Cyclonic Circulation lies over Comorin areas.
Today, we expect moderate spells over extreme West and adjoining Nilgiri areas mainly over places like Ooty, Kodaikanal, Erode and Coimbatore. Isolated pockets may even receive heavy rains. South coastal stations may receive light to moderate rains. Light rains are likely mainly over the rest parts of Tamil Nadu. Chennai will be mainly warm and humid along with light rains. Looking at the forecast, the rainfall is likely to decrease over the state after 24 hours.
These rains are likely to continue for the next four to five days.
Northeast Monsoon is yet to set in over Tamil Nadu area. However, the present situation shows that the Monsoon withdrawal might get a little delayed.
