Fresh rain and snow ahead for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

A fresh Western Disturbance, which may be the last active Western Disturbance in the month of May is going to affect Western Himalayas tonight onward. Due to its influence, we expect rain and thundershower activities to increase over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh starting today. Tomorrow, Uttarakhand may also receive thundershower activities. During this period, we expect rain and thundershower with strong gusty winds over many places in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and at a few places in Uttarakhand.

There is possibility of hailstorm in parts of Himachal and Uttarakhand during this period. This is an active Western Disturbance therefore the higher reaches of all the three states may receive snowfall as well.

Mudslides and landslides are also possible in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh between the rainy period of March 23 and 24. The intensity of these weather activities will remain high throughout except for May 22 and 25.

By May 25, the Western Disturbance will start moving away but the remnants of this system will give light scattered rains over all the three hill states.

After the passage of this Western Disturbance, the weather will clear up by May 26. Temperatures will also start rising. The next Western Disturbance is now expected to affect the region in the month of June. The remaining days of May are likely to remain clear with bright sunshine.
