Southwest Monsoon has remained active over the City of Joy during the entire August. So much so that the capital city of West Bengal has only remained dry for a mere two days in the entire month.
Several heavy spells have also been recorded over the city. However, rain intensity witnessed a setback with the city receiving rains in single digit during the last 48 hours.
While the city received 6 mm of rain a day before, only traces of rain were recorded during the last 24 hours. Now, the rainfall intensity is all set to increase overKolkataduring the next 24 hours.
The City of Joy will start receiving good Monsoon rains tomorrow evening onward. These showers are likely to continue for another three to four days.
These Monsoon rains will occur due to a fresh Monsoon system which has developed in the Northeast Bay of Bengal in the form of a cyclonic circulation. Furthermore, the system will intensify into a low pressure area while moving towards Gangetic West Bengal.
So far, Kolkata has recorded 327.8 mm of rain against its monthly rainfall of 352.4 mm. In the coming days, the city will easily surpass its monthly mean.
