Southwest Monsoon has been kind to the east and central parts of the country during August. The best performing regions have been the central parts where relentless Monsoon rains refuse to take a break.
These rains can be attributed to the back to back weather systems which were seen developing in the northern parts of the Bay of Bengal.
The previous Monsoon systems formed in the Northwest Bay of Bengal. The present low pressure area which is currently over northwest Jharkhand formed in the Northeast Bay of Bengal.
However, the weather conditions remained mainly dry over the Interior Peninsular India as these Monsoon systems could not travel down south and all they moisture was concentrated around these weather systems.
Now, it is time for the peninsular region to receive some Monsoon rains. A fresh Monsoon system in the form of a cyclonic circulation is seen over west-central Bay of Bengal. This weather system is expected to move inland with further intensification into a low-pressure area.
Thereafter, a north-south trough from Madhya Pradesh to Interior Karnataka across interior parts of Maharashtra will develop under the system’s influence. Due to this, good Monsoon rains are likely over several parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Interior Andhra Pradesh along with a few areas in Tamil Nadu.
These rains are likely to begin around August 27 and continue until the end of the month. Areas which have remained parched for a long time will be benefited by these rains.
