west bengal rainsSouthwest Monsoon has been active over East India for the last few days. Central India also came under the purview of successive Monsoon systems developing in the Bay of Bengal. Moderate to heavy showers, with isolated places receiving extremely heavy rains, have been observed over Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Chhattisgarh for the last few days.

The deep depression over East India moved in a northwest direction during last 12 hours. It has now weakened into a depression lying over extreme southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northeast Madhya Pradesh. The system can be seen about 200 km east-northeast of Satna and 240 km east-southeast of Banda.

During last 24 hours, Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar received good rains. However, rainfall has reduced over Gangetic West Bengal. Madhya Pradesh has seen vigorous rains with Rewa recording 144 mm of rainfall and Satna 134 mm.

Daltonganj in Jharkhand received 43 mm of rainfall; Gaya in Bihar recorded 18 mm; and Diamond Harbour in West Bengal 5 mm of rainfall.

Alipore observatory in Kolkata received 6 mm of rainfall while Dum Dum airport witnessed just 2 mm. Purulia received heavy showers to the tune of 78 mm.

Rains will now decrease over most parts of East India, only to increase after about 2 to 3 days. A fresh weather system is brewing up over Northeast Bay of Bengal. This weather system will be responsible for enhancing rains over the East India once again.
