Fresh Monsoon system brings good rains over Chennai

The upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha is tilting southwards with height. It is likely to intensify into a low pressure area very soon, lying over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of the fresh Monsoon system developing over the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains can be expected over many parts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu during the next few days. The system will affect coastal areas of Tamil Nadu including Chennai.

In fact, Chennai has been receiving rains for the last 2 days. The Minambakkam weather station in Chennai recorded 53 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Saturday.

Kodaikanal has received 9.2 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours while Vellore received 16.6 mm of rain fall.

This spell of rainfall over Tamil Nadu has been seen after quite sometime, bringing relief from the sultry weather conditions.

So far, Tamil Nadu has received 227 mm of rainfall against the normal of 229.1 mm. This makes the subdivision of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry 1% rainfall deficient.

Skymet Weather predicts more rains over Tamil Nadu and Chennai during next 2 to 3 days. Thus, we can expect Tamil Nadu to cover up for the present rain deficiency.
