During the Southwest Monsoon season, several weather systems develop in both Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. However, the Bay of Bengal is the more active region with the formation of multiple weather systems in a short span of time. The month of August has been a boon for the central and eastern parts of the country.

Back to back weather systems have developed in the Bay of Bengal during the past few weeks keeping Monsoon active over parts of Central and East India. Presently, a deep depression is lingering over Northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas. This Monsoon system has been giving heavy to very heavy rain over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

During the next 24 hours, a fresh Monsoon system is expected to develop over Northeast Bay of Bengal. This Monsoon system originate in the form of a cyclonic circulation and will intensify into a low-pressure area thereafter.

Thus, around August 20, good rains are likely over many parts of Northeast India along with parts of Bangladesh. Thereafter, the Monsoon system will move towards Gangetic West Bengal and initially give moderate to heavy Monsoon rains over parts of the East Coast including parts of Coastal Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand.

Thereafter, the Monsoon system may intensify into a well-marked low pressure area and move inland. During this period, moderate to heavy Monsoon rains are expected to continue over Madhya Pradesh along with parts of Chhattisgarh. Skymet Weather will keep you updated on the progress of the upcoming weather system.
