Shimla rainAfter a dry spell of 3 to 4 days, rainfall activity is again expected to pick up in entire North India including the national capital Delhi. A Western Disturbance which is currently over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining North Pakistan will move eastward and start affecting Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh Uttarakhand and adjoining Punjab region from the evening of July 24.

At the same time the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh is also expected to move northwards, towards Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. This weather system will act in tandem with the Western Disturbance and enhance rainfall activity over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, good rain in the region will start from July 24 and continue for next two days.

With this spell of rain, the day temperatures in the region are likely to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius. For places like Delhi where the maximums have been settling above normal, the rainy weather will come as a huge relief.

After July 12, the weather in entire North India had become hot and sultry with only spot rain being observed due to convective clouds. Whatever rainfall was observed, it was for a short duration and covered limited area.

Monsoon rains in most of the sub-divisions of North India are normal or above normal till now. Rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir is surplus by 53%, while Punjab and Haryana are observing normal rain.
