Updated on October 28, 2019 3 PM: Fresh low pressure likely in Bay, to trigger heavy rains over South Tamil Nadu and Kerala in next 24 hrs
As predicted by Skymet Weather, a fresh low pressure is expected to form in Indian sea during the next 24 to 48 hours. At present, it is seen as a cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal, near the Sri Lanka coast.
Travelling in favourable weather conditions of low vertical wind shear and warm sea surface temperatures, the cyclonic circulation is very much likely to get more marked. Simultaneously, the system would travel in northwest direction through Comorin region, in very close proximity of Tamil Nadu and Kerala coast.
It is most likely to induce a low pressure area and by that time it would have reached Southeast Arabian Sea.
During its journey, the likely low pressure would give moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers over extreme southern parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala during the next 48 hours. Though, today we can expect moderate with few isolated heavy spells but by night, intensity would increase and heavy to very heavy rains are likely.
Places such as Pamban, Karaikal, Palayamkottai, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari, and Thiruvananthapuram would see the major rain activity. These rain and thundershowers would stay for the next 48 hours. Although major activity would be confined to the southern coastal parts, but the trough running from this circulation along the Tamil Nadu might give some moderate rains over Chennai.
Thereafter, as the system gets more marked, it would start governing the weather over the nearby areas. Chances are there that system might induce a depression and further into a cyclonic storm. If it forms, it would be called as 'Maha'.
