The cyclonic circulation that has been lying over west-central Bay of Bengal for last several days has finally intensified into a low pressure area. The system is presently marked over South Odisha, North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of this weather system, intensity of rain has already increased over Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, we can now expect fairly widespread rain with isolated heavy showers over Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during next 24 hours. While, scattered good rain may also occur over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

As the low pressure shifts moves further, rain belt will also cover parts of Maharashtra, especially Marathwada and Vidarbha regions.

Skymet predicts, major rainfall activity will be confined to east and central parts of the country due to its slow movement.

Updated on August 25, 2015 12.50 PM (IST): Fresh low pressure likely in Bay of Bengal

The cyclonic circulation that is presently lying over west-central Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast is likely to get more organized during next 48 hours. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the system has all the strength to intensify into a low pressure area thereafter.

Initially, the system will give moderate showers over the coastal parts of East India such as North Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and adjoining West Bengal.

Subsequently, the low pressure area will move inland and would cover more parts of these states along with parts of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. As per Skymet, all these areas are expected to receive moderate to heavy Monsoon during this period.

With this system moving at a slow pace, we can expect a prolonged spell of Monsoon rains over East India. Moreover, the system does not show any sign of travelling far off up to Rajasthan across central parts of the country.

According to Skymet, systems developing during end of August do not tend to travel far off to the western parts of the country, as Southwest Monsoon starts retreating from these parts of the country by the first week of September.
