After the onset of Southwest Monsoon 2019 in Kerala, the rain intensity has significantly increased over Karnataka coast and Kerala. During the last 48 hours, heavy to very heavy rains have been reported in many parts of Kerala.
Have a look at the rainfall recorded by various places in Kerala during the last 24 hours:
According to Skymet Weather, a well- marked Low Pressure Area has intensified into a Depression. There are chances of this system taking a form of a Cyclonic Storm during the next 24 to 48 hours. It would be named as Cyclone Vayu.
In the wake of this system, we expect moderate to heavy rains with isolated heavy to very heavy rains in parts of Kerala and coastal Karnataka. Moreover, Karnataka including Mangaluru and adjoining coastal districts may receive extremely heavy rains during the next two to three days. In the wake of these activities, temperature pattern will follow a decreasing trend in Kerala and Karnataka.
After 48 hours as the system moves little away, the rain intensity is expected to decrease in Kerala, however, a gradual increase in rainfall activity is likely over coastal Karnataka. The region may also receive heavy spell of rain and thundershower activities for the next two to three days.
On the contrary, weather activities will be comparatively less over Interior Peninsula as moist winds would now concentrate over the probable Cyclone Vayu. Tamil Nadu and Telangana, but the chances of few good spells over North interior Karnataka cannot be ruled out. In fact, most parts in Telangana will remain almost dry with the presence of heat wave conditions.
In addition to above system, a Cyclonic Circulation is over West Central Bay of Bengal close to Andhra coast. Thus, there are chances of light to moderate intense thundershowers over coastal Andhra Pradesh. In fact, North coastal Andhra Pradesh and places adjacent to Odisha such as Kakinada, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam may receive intense showers during afternoon or evening hours. Some isolated rains may also occur over Rayalaseema during the next 24 to 48 hours.
Moreover, in the wake of a Cyclonic Circulation over West Central Bay of Bengal, heavy to extremely heavy rains have occurred over Andaman and Nicobar islands. Now, we expect heavy to very heavy rains to continue over the region for next two to three days. Thus, tourists are advised to take due precautions.
